Do they have any recommendations?

Most sitters will have people they have sat for before, and will be more than happy to share with you, ask for there details and speak with them. or do they have testimonials or written references you can see?

Do they have first aid training/insurance/common sense?

This may seem a bit odd, but anyone can set up to say they are a pet sitter, but is cheap always better? what happens if fluffy gets hurt while you are away, will they know what to do, are they calm and reliable? Do they have insurance for protection? 

3 \ Did they offer you a meet and greet before you booked?

This should be a given - always meet the potential sitter before agreeing to anything.

This is a good opportunity for you discuss what you want from the experience, how you want your pets cared for.  What rules you have or don't have regarding their welfare.  

Does the sitter sound knowledgable, do they ask you questions, how do they make you feel? They need to listen to what you want and not impose their own views on you.
